About Rarefied

Rarefied is a free daily game about thinking past the obvious, made independently in Nashville, Tennessee.

The game

Every day there are seven prompts, like Name a bird or Name a word that rhymes with cat. The common answers keep you near the trailhead. The rare ones take you up into the thin air. Read how to play.

How the answers are sorted

• Every prompt has a hand-checked list of accepted answers, from a few dozen to over a thousand.
• Answers are sorted into four tiers using how commonly people name them. As people play, we compare those tiers with what everyone actually says.
• Answers we don't recognize are logged, and real ones get added.
• The answers never reach your browser until you've given yours, so nobody can look them up in the page.

Free to play

There's nothing to buy and no account to make. Your stats are saved on your own device. We count plays and answers anonymously to see how many people play and how rare each answer is, and we may show ads to keep the game free. Our privacy policy explains exactly what we collect.
